Buckville area information

Post by Yellcounty » Sun Nov 30, 2008 9:11 pm

Looking for any information I can get about overnight float trips on Lake Ouachita around the Buckville Area. Put in points, any stores close to lake, preferred areas for island camping, etc. Looking at a family overnight trip in the spring. Thanks for any help.

Buckville is a great spot to launch from. Several islands within a very short distance.
I am hoping Beverly Buys chimes in.
In the meantime, read the article under "Pleasant Places to Paddle" and view the online slideshow at the end.

buckville has one small store. campground is primitive. islands are great in this area for camping. no city lights at this end of the lake! south shore resorts are closer to crowds.

Be sure and take a lake map. It's easy to get lost launching from buckville.Panicman and I ran across a couple of turkey hunters in that area who had beached their boat and walked into the woods to hunt. They came out of the woods in a different spot and couldn't find their boat. We took them back to the launch where they called the sherriff for help. 8) Dan-o
It's just water & rocks.

Thanks for all the information. Can I expect good exposed shoreline on most islands in the spring or is the water table substantially higher? Thanks again, sounds like a great family trip.

Yes, even when the water is at it's highest, there are still some good launching/camping beaches somewhere on the lee of most every island.
