Re: Beware of southwest paddler

I do know Marc MaCord being a Texan and all... I will say the one trip I took with him was memorable on the Rio Grande... probably wouldn't do it again with him, but on the other hand was in short supply for paddling buddies when living in Big Bend National Park. Paddling with a kayak paddle is comm...

Re: What gear did you get for Christmas?

I got a new metal detector for those days when I'm out and just want to see what is there... Of course, Santa couldn't find my house again this year and I wound up paying for my present. One of these days I'm gonna live where there are paddlers that like to go paddling and clear flowing rivers again...

Re: The Dutch Oven Cook-off Is ON For Revdezvous

I've cooked in several dutch oven cook offs, even wrote a cook book - but the best thing I remember about the best cook off was we all cooked the same foods, i.e., chili, cornbread, peach cobbler and there was plenty to go around later... what about that? lol. Of course, being in Arkansas, I'm think...

Re: need help with choosing food

I have done many trips into the wilderness either by horseback or by kayak and have found that if you do a bit of planning, forget bringing water and buy a water filter or tabs to purify you water, you can have some memorable meals. For a three night four day trip: first night - fresh food such as a...

White River NWR Fishing

All of the lakes are now open for fishing - so, if you want to go pack it up and come on over! Buck Lake is hopping with slab sized blue gills (wonderful to catch on a fly line)... and yellow belly perch along with crappie.

Re: White River Overnighter . . . or two

Drats, I would like to go but if you choose the week of August 8th I can't as a new grandson will make his way into the world that week and I have grandma duties to attend to. Have fun!

Re: Grand Canyon Shutdown?

As I understand it, if a fire is going on - then there would be staff to monitor it, but not that many. No new prescribed fires would be set and no new ADs would be hired to watch/tramp the fires. Security/Law Enforcement will be on the job, but only there to protect buildings and lands of the US Go...

Re: Grand Canyon Shutdown?

Perhaps I can answer this question as I work for US Fish and Wildlife Service which is a federal funded program just like National Park Service. Each September, budgets are proposed and must be passed on so the federal programs such as NPS, USFWS, National Fisheries, Historic Places, National Librar...

Re: BUFFALO RIVER - APR 1-3 2011

Drats and I have to work - went last Thursday night ran into rain and hell and hail and cold and decided it wasn' the weekend I was suppose to be there so, I ran home to St. Charles. But Richard, doesn't the Buffalo remind you of the Llano and Frio and Guadalupe all rolled up in one? There is a padd...

Re: Buffalo trip March 25 27?

 Ugh - I'm directionally challenged and since Jan doesn't know if she can make it to Rush or not, I'll be happy to help pay for a campsite at Buffalo Point - It will only be and Critter Killer.... and of course, two dutch ovens.... So Richard, What's for Dinner?

Re: Buffalo trip March 25 27?

Buffalo Point? Okay sounds good to me - I will leave tomorrow after work (around 4pm from St. Charles) and arrive there late Thursday Chris, but would be willing to float on Friday. I'll be in a blue ford SUV with a yellow/orange kayak on top and a black minature doxie in my lap. 435-633-3685... lov...
