? About ADEQ and the closing of the raceway on Hwy. 70

Post by Roger » Fri Jul 25, 2008 3:38 pm

Anybody know why they closed the ATV drag strip on the north side of Hwy. 70 going toward Hot Springs?

Tried to search their site and could not find anything. Name of it is Slocum Raceway (Drag Strip, or something like that).

Just curious in light of some things going on up here in oilfield country.

I don't know that they ever had a regular schedule of events. That tracks alway's been closed far more than it's ever been open. One night at a friends house down the road we heard them still racing at one-thirty in the morning.

We pass by there all the time on the way to H.S., hasn't been any activity in many moons, weeds currently waist high. I'm no fan of motor sports at all but I don't think this place could cause any environmental degradation other than the natural noise pollution these places tend to inflict on nearby neighbors. Since I'm somewhat of a history nut..., I do wish an effort by the local historians could be made to shore -up the remains of the old train depot at Slocomb, it's that rusty old building beside the highway that looks like a sway-backed horse.
