Lock System for Yakima 300 Truck Rack

Post by plaidpants » Fri Apr 25, 2008 10:28 am

A while back I inquired about a lock system for the J-bolts on the Yakima 300 series truck racks I have purchased. The reply was that Yakima was not planning on making a lock system for that model of rack. I was concerned with the money I spent on the product that they would not have come up with a lock system. I leave my truck at several remote locations and even though a lock is only a deterrent for a thief I feel more comfortable about locking them in. I did not want to use a bunch of cables and lock them together. I wanted something also cosmetically appealing and happened to find the right product.

I used a Master lock product I purchased at this link http://www.safemart.com/index.asp?PageA ... rodID=6928. The only modification is the hole that goes over the J-bolt has to be bored to a bit larger size. Very cosmetically appealing and at a very low price. The only thing I wish now is they were all keyed the same. I guess I will color code them somehow.

I seen a lock on a spare tire on the back of a SUV one day and thought a spare tire lock would be great. There are several types out there to choose from but I found these the least expensive.
