The first kayak I bought was a Dagger Approach and I bought it for the same reasons as your looking. The boat has an almost flat bottom which is different than most Rec boats. It also has a spring loaded drop-skeg which when released lets the boat track great. This is why its listed as a Hybrid boat. Lift the skeg up to go through the rapids. Put it down for the flat pools. For the camping it has a dry storage area in the stern large enough for your gear. I have a blue one for sale posted on this site.

Thanks for the response. Yes I seen yours for sale but wont be able to buy until after the first of the year. Did the skeg work as designed? I heard Dagger was coming out with a 9 foot version but have'nt seen anything of it.

Gary and I both have the 10 foot approach. They are very stable and we have had many trips in them on class I-II whitewater without swims, and some swimming but could have swam more had we been in other kayaks.
I heard about the 9 foot coming out too and I know that Don in Hot Springs I heard is going to get some in.

We like our Approaches and the skegs work to keep it straight. You can buy a skirt from Don that works well on them. I have the neoprene skirt.

Your welcome to give ours a try anytime.

Yes, the skeg works very well. Its a whole different boat with the skeg down. I checked Daggers site and didn't see anything about a 9.0. I would think you would lose the dry storage area taking a foot off the boat.
