Elk Rivers Trash
My wife and I floated and fished the "lower" Elk River yesterday. And did quite well I might add. We put in below the Tyson plant at Noel and took out at Cowskin near Southwest City. This a beautiful river without all the people that are on the Pineville section. (only one outfitter down there) There are some really pretty bluff lines on this section and even the pools have current. The water isn't as clear as the Sugar but, it is pretty good.
The only bad thing is ALL the trash. I really couldn't believe that people don't take more pride in this beautiful stream. If the Missouri paddlers and outfitters would do a trash pick up we'd be more than happy to help. Maybe the Arkansas paddlers could show up too and help clean up some of the trash. Maybe give these folks a little pride in what they have.
Once you paddle this river I feel you will want to paddle it again.

Good fishing too! It's been about 3 years since I have floated that stretch, sounds like it has gone down hill. Someone user to organize a cleanup on the Elk, but I want to say it was limited to the above Noel area.
Just the excuse I was lookin for to go wet a brownie hook.

Hay Big John, would you like to go next Saturday 8/2. I can't go this weekend. We could get a early start pick up some trash and wet a hook too? I'll call you soon, if that is OK.

I'll go for clean up trip on Big Sugar, Little Sugar, and/or the Elk if anyone wants to go during the week and run shuttle with me. I have a canoe trailer that will hold 4 canoes and racks on my Pathfinder that will hold 2 more canoes, but I need a day or two's notice so I can clean out the Pathfinder to hold people and gear. Indian Creek would also be a great float. Osage creek near XNA airport would also possibly benefit from a cleanup.

In that case, I can't wait to hook a few bronzebacks and remove some trash from the lower little sugar! Eric, I am taking a few days off in August and will check in with you.

Well then, I want to tag along. My green pumpkin bitsy tubes are drying out. They need a good soaking. -M-

Re: Elk Rivers Trash
Its a long drive for me, so I may not make this one, but I just have to comment that I love the evolution of this thread!
It started with a little bit of "somebody ought to do something...", "if somebody else would do something I would be willing to help...", but has totally evolved into "let's us go do something, and by golly we're going to have fun doing it!"
You go guys!

Re: Elk Rivers Trash
Ok 8/5 works for me. Hopefully we get a little rain so we can fish and clean up the little Sugar or Indian Creek. If not we can stick to the "lower" Elk. That should be a hoot. I'll bring the trash bags. I have a plan.

Re: Elk Rivers Trash
If there's any way I can work my schedule right, I'm in! I can bring bags too. Jerry, I'll try not to catch all the fish on this trip.-M-

Anyone else want to meet up with us how about meeting at the Jane Wal Mart @ 8:30/9:00. A good place to get a Mo. fishn' lic. and beer. There is also a Subway too. John I'll call you in a little bit.
