Tyler Bend Put In

Post by jamesrivergirl » Wed Jun 26, 2013 5:38 pm

Has anybody else seen that the upper launch at Tyler Bend has been limited to concession putin only??? This is the only put in that you can actually pull your car near the river to unload boats and gear. It seems that what is intended that private boaters park in the main parking lot and carry theirboats and gear down the trail to the river at the paved ramp which is closed due to a flood a couple of years back but was never re-opened. just checking to see if what I saw was a temporary thing or if they intend to not accomodate the private boating community anymore.

Go wherever you want. We've launched twice from the "john boat" area and had no problem.

Last week a sign was posted stating that the upper put in was for concession and john boating launching only.

Write john boat on your "vessel". Problem solved! You have a John boat. You can launch there now

unload at the closed gate? use the upper put in if there is room... off hours have little renter traffic. We carried down. Still a MUCH better put in than some of the others. The washed out put in could still be used if folks did it smart... but that prob won't happen

Seems to me they have been fighting the river for some time there. Glad to see them quit pouring money into what will wash out again. We have cleaned up their ideas 6 or so miles downstream.

driving close to the water can be done at the 65 bridge... if day users do not block the way.
You sure this is on the right channel?

This reminds me of why I LOVE free flowing rivers so passionately. Thanks, Clif.

Rivers are basically living things that change, adapt, resist, evolve. It's AWESOME beyond the power of words the way natural streams function. They don't like to be caged. They can heal themselves to a surprising degree. In the past 30 years the old Steele Creek hazard "Wrecking Rock" has been buried and bypassed by the river, "Little Niagara" the tumbling shoal below Woolum has been overtaken by the Buffalo and is gone, the river has carved it's channel to the right of Grey Rock, which is just an anonymous rock with bushes growing on it now. Glad I've got photos of all three. But new drops, shoals, riffles and chutes have appeared. Watching a free flowing stream romp and remake itself over the years makes each trip unique. We learn the lines and features, the river throws something else at us, like a chess match. Rivers are my most beloved natural feature God put on earth.

Just had to reminisce!! :myday" GOD BLESS OUR RIVERS

So true Louis. House Rock Rapid on the Dragover section of the Ouachita has changed just this year. There used to be a large eddy behind the largest rock in river center. This year there is a gravel bar there. The level we floated at this year had always been a good level in years past. This year it was very bony and really almost too low.

Interesting, I did not know that Chris. I remember that eddy. I have been in that eddy. Both in my boat and NOT IN MY BOAT!!

Hah! The one time that I was not in my boat there I missed that eddy but, found one of the submerged rocks on river right (ouch) and then went about 50-60 yds. downriver I did however hang on to my paddle. My companions wrangled my boat and all was good except for the nice bruise on my thigh.

And here I am participating in the hi-jack of another thread. Such bad manners on my part. :NoNo:
