Saw this on Facebook and wanted everyone to read it. The river was running at about 130,000cfs when this event happened.

I will go ahead and say I've SUP'd the Arkansas river this week by myself without fear. The highest flow I ran this week was 180,000cfs. It was pretty impressive that day.
These two people are lucky that someone decided to swim to them. If you've never been on the river when it's over 70,000cfs you might want to stay off.
Glad they didn't drown.

I've hit it over 400,000 a time or two, as have some others. Didn't need to roll, but was glad I knew how. What you really have to watch out for are the trees.
The Facebook post is a classic lesson in "paying attention", or as they liked to call it at work, "situational awareness". If the first guy hadn't paid attention and investigated, the lifeguard guy would have likely passed on by, and it could have ended very differently. Good Story!

A pharmacy student to the rescue! Glad to see our students step it up outside the classroom.
