Cossatot tomorrow?

Post by tball » Fri May 24, 2013 10:34 am

I'm (still) desperate to get on the Cossatot.

I see t's at 3.53 now and seems to be dropping a little faster than the predictor predicts. The predictor says it should be at 3.22 tomorrow... I've seen one reference that says it is runnable down to 3.2, and at least on other that says down to 2.7.

Think it'll still be a fun run tomorrow, at say 3.0?

Anybody planning on a run tomorrow?

I personally would not go below 3'. And at 3 there is some serious rock dodging. I would guess that given the weather there may be people there as long as it is above 3'.

The predictor has some assumptions that need to be satisfied before relying on it and #2 doesn't hold with all the trees having leaves.

1) The river has crested and the stage is falling.
2) Reflects normal winter/spring conditions (leaves off trees and normal ground water table)
3) Additional rain does not fall.

It will be a fun run at 3'
The machine will be a little stickier if you are planning to run the falls

At this point I'm trying to get down there tomorrow although currently dealing with a finicky starter motor. With this kind of weather it's still fun even at 3.0, Although I would admit that even a little more would be a real bonus.

Should also be nice tonight on the full moon for those so inclined.

Well it's been a while but if the level stays at 3 or above I will be making the drive up from Corpus Christi TX. Moved down here a few months ago for a job. Coming up to see some family and friends but I will make a detour for some whitewater fun if it stays up. If not I might look for something else like Dierks or Fishers Ford if its going. Hoping to be at the falls somewhere around 10-11, if it holds. Hahns, white Tacoma single cab

II you get there and find that the Cossatot is at a level that is less than you desire you might consider the Saline River below Dierks Lake. It's nearby, you can park and play or run down to Highway 70, and its been running for at least the past week. No of course its not the Tot. I can say this because we ran the Tot on Thursday @ 4.2,and I am planning to run Dierks tomorrow. So see you tomorrow or have fun on the Tot. BOB

Thanks for the info folks - will be heading up to the falls in the morning (10ish) with a buddy from Austin.

Will keep Dierks in mind. Used to participate in the slalom races there (too many years ago) and haven't seen the new Dierks in person.
