Buckville on Lake Ouachita

Post by Paddlegal » Sun Apr 14, 2013 3:47 pm

Part of the Caddo Clan is anticipating camping at Buckville starting the 2nd week in May for a couple of weeks. I'm going out on Wednesday, May the 8th, weather permitting.

Buckville is primitive, no water, vault toilets, but there is a little store up the hill and Walmart 17 miles East.

From there we could access Dragover or a river that drains into the Iron Forks portion of Lake Ouachita. I don't know the name of the river but I bet James K. does. I do know that unless there is plenty of water its not a viable float. Also the Ouachita River headwaters would be doable where it drains into Lake Ouachita.

Buckville has a swim beach and plenty of island access. Its one of my favorite camping spots. I have yet to find out if its good fishing as the lake has been low for several years. I think if we get up there early enough in the season we'll have water. The swimming is downright hot any later in the year (but August is great for viewing the Perseid meteor shower).

Anyone is welcome to join us. So far its me and Gecko (Mayo Smith) and his long boat. We're roughing it but yes :drool2: restaurants are but 17 miles away at the entrance to Hot Springs Village. Its not going to be REAL rough.

I can't wait to try out my new Kodiak Canvas tent and all the gear I bought just before retiring last year. I'm not going to go home until somebody makes me.

Hope to see some of my buds show up, even if its just for a night or two! :poke2:
