Video Edit from Lower Richland 2/27
Cold and overcast most of the day on this trip and the second time out with the GoPro. A great level for this run. Lots of folks say they have never done this run but would like to try it...so this is my tour. The rapids are in order except for two which I didn't realize until I was almost done editing and I spent some extra time on scenery videoing the bluffs and giant boulders in the creek. This is a great run for someone wanting to step up from class II+ and throw in a few III's (maybe 6 class III's depending on level?) I've ran this at 2.3ft which is very low and 2.7 is probably the lowest it should be paddled. 4ft is fun and BIG! Thanx to Scott Acher for paddling with me...always a good time.

Again thanks! I have never paddled Richland though I did hike it back in the early seventies. I see now what I missed. Good job on the video and edit. And the music isn't bad. At least to this half-deaf old Codger with amplified speakers. I look foreward to more from you and others here. I am killing my buds in Canada who are iced out of their rivers with these vids of moving water and people enjoying it. And killing myself with missing Arkansas waters.

Very good camera and editing work.
This run is often overlooked due to the appeal of the upper section. It is another fine run to enjoy.
As an instructor, it was great to see you work hard on eddy turns instead of just floating down river. This looks to me to be a super good run to hone river running skills.
Thanks for sharing this.

Re: Video Edit from Lower Richland 2/27
Thanx guys...we have taken quite a few people down this stretch. We've been down quite a few times to do upper Richland and ended up shuttling with someone that we weren't comfortable taking on the upper. Most have done pretty good. I wonder why a lot of people don't constantly work on their eddy turns and ferry's etc...it only makes you better and keeps your skills sharp. The run has some 'big water' features and some creeky lines, again depending on the level.

Thanks for posting! I'm one of those who has somehow never gotten the chance to paddle Lower Richland, but I want to, and your video made me want to even more! Looks beautiful! Also, it sure looked like a lot of very inviting surf waves in there!
Just one more week to daylight savings time! Woot!
Amen to this! You can make class III moves on class II water - practice, practice, practice! If people want to step up to the harder rivers, then make sure you are catching every eddy and really working those "easy" runs. "Playing" your way down a river really helps to hone your river reading skills. Of course, because that's my paddling style, folks who prefer to just "bomb" down a river aren't always happy with my <slow> pace, but hey, it's not a race (at least not for me)!perspective7 wrote:I wonder why a lot of people don't constantly work on their eddy turns and ferry's etc...it only makes you better and keeps your skills sharp.

I've heard that into every life a little of it must fall,

Thanx again every1...it's a scenic float w/ some good rapids. And yes, there are some good surfing spots at the beginning of the run.
