The Arkansas Canoe Club is planning an American Canoe Association Advanced Swiftwater Rescue Instructor Certification workshop for this fall. The dates are October 19-21 for the Instructor Development Workshop and November2-4 for the Instructor Certification Exam. The location is yet to be determined but it will be in Arkansas most likely on the Spring River or at Rockport. The cost of the workshop is $450 ($225 for each part). The cost does not cover your lodging, travel, meals, or ACA membership fees. Membership in the ACA, along with membership in the Safety Education Instruction Committee (SEIC) and current First Aid/CPR are required for certification. Tom Burroughs and Walter Felton will be leading the workshop and while certification for every participant is our goal it is not guaranteed as a result of participation.
The workshop will be limited to 10 so that Tom and I can provide adequate time to each candidate. If you are interested I would like to hear back from you as soon as possible. To confirm your spot in the training we will need a 50% deposit no later than August 15. If by that date we do not have 10 participants we will post the workshop on the ACA calendar.
While the IDW is designed to help candidates get up to speed for teaching rescue skills candidates should come to the workshop with strong rescue and boating skills.
