Cossatot Cleanup June 9th

Post by DeBo » Tue May 22, 2012 10:19 pm

There will be a Cleanup on the Cossatot on June 9th. We will meet at park headquarters at 10am. Park staff will have a plan for us and trash bags. Since the creek will most likely not be floatable, we will work on cleaning access points. Please RSVP to me so the park will have a good estimate of how many to fix lunch for. Cossatot State Park has been a great friend to paddlers. Show your appreciation by lending a hand.

I think the water level will be ideal for cleanup Saturday with rain overnight and beautiful whitewater Sunday, so I would encourage everyone to plan on being there.I will be even without water.

Hometown Throwdown will not begin until 3:00-3:30 on Saturday the 9th and will be held at the Ouachita River Whitewater Park, approximately an hour and 45 minutes from the Cossatot. For those that participate in both events, there will be a special prize at the throwdown! Here's how it will work. Get proof you were at the Cossatot Clean-up, either from one of the park interpreters, a photo, etc... Then when you sign up for the throwdown, you'll be entered in a separate raffle to win an ENO Hammock!!!!! This give-away is sponsored by Ouachita Outdoor Outfitters and will hopefully encourage participation in both events!

and the plot thickens

Too bad for me that I can't come because of a creek cleanup right here in Fayettetown that I am committed to already..... because the wifey has never been down there to see the awesomeness and camping out before hand would be perfect SINCE ITS NOT GOING TO RAIN.

DeBo and I are coming. We will probably try to make it back to Hometown Throwdown too, and then I'll continue on to the Spring for the Sunday canoe races. (Gonna be a drivin' fool this weekend.)

Cowper - it ain't nothing new! Same thing as when it rains all over the state and you are chasing steeps from the Ozarks to the Ouachitas in one weekend. You are just out of practice from lack of rain! ;)

The staff at Cossatot State Park do a really good job keeping it clean.I had to really beat the bushes to fill a trash bag at Brushy Recreation Area.Walter reported easy pickings along the gravel road between the visitors center and Brushy, but I think this is outside the Parks jurisdiction.A winter cleanup might be good,I think I spent more time looking for snakes than trash.

The cleanup was great!!! The park service fed us burgers and cold ice tea in their awesome air conditioning. Then we enjoyed some great snorkeling in the falls. Thanks DeBo for getting the cleanup arranged.
Sincerely,
Adam Willard
