Welcome!

If responses are "light", it is mostly because many of us will be at the Mulberry river that weekend, since it is the annual Canoe School (AKA, "School of Whitewater Paddling"). Those not in a class, or teaching, or helping run shuttles, will just be hanging out and visiting with friends. You only have to be registered if you are in a class; all of the other stuff and campfires are "open invitation." There is usually a general membership meeting early Saturday evening.

If there is not rain, then the river will be low enough to be relatively safe even for beginners, but, you might have to drag your boat some. (Conventional wisdom calls it "too low to float" at the current levels.)

If the river rises due to rain and you are new to canoeing, then it would not be the best place to start off. I saw on another thread you were probably headed to the Buffalo; that is probably your best bet for a good weekend, I just wanted you to know you were welcome and had other options if you wanted them.

@Cowper: Thank you for taking time to respond. And thank you for letting me know what to expect in that River. Yes we are gonna go Little Red River, but if you can suggest a better one for water float, it would be so nice. Me and my husband just do do research on the internet. So we would love hear insights from people like you who known all these rivers and stuff.
Thank you!

Unfortunately WW School registration is closed. We (the organizers) need a few weeks to sort participants into groups and get the waivers/paperwork before school starts. We do still have the School of Recreational Paddling open. Both are great learning opportunities, and the level of instruction definitely has some overlap.

Info on Rec School: http://www.arkansascanoeclub.com/Defaul ... eId=577443" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks,

What did you come up with?

well because the mulberry has the tendancy to be a ll-lll.
& have my wife & daughter w/me :), maybe the mulberrry is a little much.
because we wanted to maje it a 2-3 day venture & also wanted to do a little trout finshing, that i havent dine in years, what the plan is now is to float the little red as far as we can get & still have time 2 set-up camp before dark the next morning either finish our float or run over & check out the caddo river for saturday & sunday.
if you see some wrong please let me know. i am doing my best to make sure that this will be as safe & enjoyable as i can for my wife & daughter
thanks

I'm a little confused. Are you wanting to canoe camp or base camp? If you're wanting to canoe camp the Little Red is out. Also, if you're looking for primitive camping with any sort of seclusion the Little Red is out. Its proximity to central Arkansas makes it very popular, so you'll have lots of company there. It is nice for float fishing, but for what you're looking for I'd be inclined to suggest the White even though it's quite a bit farther from you.

If you're wanting to canoe camp and trout fish the White is pretty much it. There are other options if trout fishing is negotiable.
