New to the ACC and wanted to say hello.
Howdy all. I just joined the ACC and I'm looking forward to meeting others and canoeing some of the area rivers I've never been on.
I recently bought a Mad River Legend 15 and have been out a few times already. (buffalo twice, and Mullberry once).
I have a truck with racks and am available most of the time to go pretty much anywhere if I have a day or two's notice. Long trips are fine so long as my dog can go.
Hope it was alright to post this here. Feel free to move or delete if not.
Dave.

Welcome! You are sure to meet some wonderful people through this sport. I began kayaking about three years ago, and the kind people make it that much more enjoyable.

Welcome, sleekmason.
ACC is the greatest group I've ever been in, joined 4 years ago, wish it'd been 20 years ago. You'll have numerous, wonderful opportunities to paddle with people who love our sport. Find a group going who've posted here and join in. Is you Legend set up for solo, or do you paddle from the stern seat, or from the bow seat facing the stern? That's a very good all-around boat.
Happy paddlin'!!

Re: New to the ACC and wanted to say hello.
Thank you for your replies. Looks like a good decision for sure.
@ Louiscov, I have my Legend set to do both tandem and solo from the bow. I found 6" stainless bolts at Shamrock in Springdale and have lowered the seats a bit using 3/4" round dowel and some washers, and am installing 48" 3d vinyl end bags (drilling below the gunwhale), and a couple of "D" rings to hold my gear. Lowering the seats really makes a difference.
I'm really digging the customization of my canoe. It is the first canoe I have owned myself. I've been scouring the internet for good ideas on setup.
What do you guys paddle?
And, Is there some sort of "play area" for canoes? or are the kayak play areas to dangerous?
Even though I've done a bit of work to my canoe, I don't really know much and am eager to learn.

Well, after thinking about it, Im off to ponca. Its low but thats okay. If you see a guy solo in a legend with a black dog, that'd be me.
Best regards, Dave.

I couldn't really tell what your experience level is from your post. I strongly recommend attending the ACC whitewater school this May to hone your ability to control the Legend (this will greatly reduce your chances or damaging or losing your canoe) and you will learn how to recognize situations that are dangerous. Registration begins in a few days; don't wait long since the classes fill fast.
Some easy outings are posted every now and then on this message board. Be sure to tell the trip instigator (coordinator? person posting) where you have paddled before so you don't end up having a difficult or unpleasant day on the river. A lot of posted trips are for experienced whitewater paddlers and may or may not be suitable for those new to the sport. I occasionally post outings and will always be clear about whether or not the trip is suitable for your experience level. Jim Krueger frequently posts outings to places suitable for paddlers looking for a Class I-II experience, similar to the Buffalo in difficulty, either on this board or the recreational/touring board. Some easy runs are also written up at http://class2arkansas.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Welcome to the sport! Hope to paddle with you soon.

Welcome! You are among friends who will soon become like family. We take care of each other on and off the water.
Get connected with your chapter and have fun with folks who share your pasion and interests.
If you missed a class at whitewate school, come on up and meet the rest of the family. You don't have to be in a class to enjoy the weekend.
