CONTRACT SIGNED FOR DESIGN OF ROCKPORT LOWER LEDGE

Post by CAPTAIN ALEVE » Tue Feb 02, 2010 9:48 am

January 28,2010

Malvern Mayor Steve Northcutt signed the contract with McLaughlin Whitewater Design Group on the 28th. The final product (due in 75 days) will be plans developed to the 30% stage including a cost estimate for construction of the play wave or waves at the Tanner Street bridge, visible downstream of I-30. ACC donations are funding this project in part; it is expected that more money will be needed to perform the actual construction. Grants will be solicited once we know the projected cost and have the 30% complete design drawings.

One possible source of funds is Entergy's Ouachita River Environmental Enhancement Fund. We may qualify for the $100,000+ available if we can convince the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission that the project will have a positive effect on the fishery. AGFC representatives met on-site with the designers in October to discuss ways to make the wave features a good thing for the fishes and other aquatic life. The AGFC will be given the opportunity to take part in the plan development whenever the chance arises to further our chances of receiving funding.

We need experienced grant writers who would be willing to volunteer to help secure additional funding from any other sources we can locate and we need help in locating such sources.

Onward!!!!

Rick (McLaughlin Group) makes a great presentation on modifications to WW Parks to include fish ladders and or fish passages or he did for the Tulsa Wave.

He also makes great suggestions on making a WW Park appeal to folks outside the boating community. Which is a good thing for city sponsored projects.

Good job you all did to get Malvern governmental folks on the side of a WW Park project.

Looking forward to seeing this deal working. Just might make Malvern the Destination place for WW boating in this part of the world.
