DAVE CREEK TRIP REPORT

Post by CAPTAIN ALEVE » Mon Nov 02, 2009 10:07 am

Jeff Gannon and I caught some water in Dave Creek last Friday.Locals said they had 5" to 7" in their rain gages from the night before. The water was low by the time we got there, but still good fun. Maybe too much fun for my old, aching body. Must get in better shape. Some pics and video at

I'm still learning about video taking, editing, and uploading, so bear with me. The helmet cam sound got kind of muffled after I scraped a bluff with the camera.

Yeah, Dave Creek is one of several short creeks that flow into the north side of Greers Ferry. Fairfield Bay sits on the north shore of the arm of the lake that receives the Archey Fork and the South Fork, just west of Clinton. That area is close enough for me to day hike and check out the posssibilities. I've got a few more to scout when the temperatures cool off.

Great stuff there Mike, how often does Dave Creek run? Are there any gauges for it?

I've been using the radar to guess when there is water in the creek. We did meet several of the Fairfield Bay city staff while we were there and I may be able to get one of them to check the level for me. Did I forget to mention that one of their sewage treatment plants empties into the creek just upstream of the the big falls we scouted? Sniff, sniff? Yeah, right there above where I scraped the hide off my arm.

This creek has lots of potential, but will be hard to catch with more water. It is just full of slides and narrow slots. If you didn't know you were in FFB,you would think it was somewhere in the big hills.
