The gauge is reading way higher, why is this and how can you tell what it is really running?

Spanke the gauge on the OWP is on the Poteau River a good ways downstream. I don't think there is a close correlation between the two, more just an indicator that there is a lot of water in the area.

I want to say what flows out of Wister Lake is only a portion of what flows in the Poteau River are based off of. Anyways, look at the Army Corps of Engineers site for Wister Lake and it will give you a summary of the day:

Reservoir release is 1578 cubic feet per second on Wednesday 23Sep09 Time: 1000 hours.
