ACC Conservation Page

Post by DeBo » Mon Mar 23, 2009 11:24 pm

Well, I am finally getting around to building the content in the Conservation page! Plans are to have news about club activities in conservation, updates on important issues, articles by members related to conservation and links to government agencies and organizations who work with us on these issues and other features.

I have added a lot of content and plan to add more. The external links are working but most of the internal links are not working yet. Hopefully I will have time to get those set tomorrow.

Check it out and let me know if there is anything that you would like to see.

Thanks, Debbie Doss, ACC Conservation Co Chair

Thanks guys! And thanks to all who care about conservation. Without those who give their time to it, there will be no streams to paddle. I wish that there were more :(

Sweet Page Debo !

Great idea also !

It sure seems that as many people enjoy resources, the connection between using or enjoying the resource and working to improve or preserve it would be stronger.

Sometimes I wonder about the level of disconnect between a hiker that leaves trash on the trail, a boater that loves to float a stream and leaves trash on the river or does not work to ensure that the river they are floating on will be there in the future and so on.

But then I remember that there are many billions of people on this earth who seem to think that air will always be here to breath, water will always be here to drink, and regardless of the harm done to the earth by them all that it will still sustain us all.

Ok, that was way too depressing - I need a drink, a paddle, and to try and convince others to make a difference to feel better again.

Go team conservation !

Thanks! I agree with all of the above. I spent the last couple of days standing around on hard marble floors in uncomfortable shoes listening to lobbyists for Farm Bureau complain to our representatives that forcing commissioners of state agencies to be accountable to the State Ethics Board is a bad idea. :?

The good news is that in spite of them, HB1968 went through the House Rules Committee today with a recommendation that it "do pass." HB1968 imposes penalties on state commission members who are guilty of conflicts of interest violations. This would apply to the Pollution Control and Ecology Commission, The Oil and Gas Commission and all other state Commissions.

It now has to pass the full House and the Senate. It will be voted in the House tomorrow, so send off an email to your representative ASAP.
