Happy New Year Swamp Float!

Post by DeBo » Sun Dec 28, 2008 7:54 pm

I am planning the traditional New Year's Day float trip. It will be on either Wattensaw or Bayou Deview, depending on water levels. I will be bringing the Red Hot Cider. So, bring in the new year the best way! Let me know here if you want to go. :D

Reguardless of where we end up going, we will meet in Hazen. Take the Hazen exit on I40 which is exit 193. Turn right and then immediately right again into the T'Ricks convienence store. I plan to be there at 9:00AM (Now changed to 10:00AM). Right now, I am leaning toward Bayou DeView. Looks like we will have a good group.

Deb,
What do you think it will be like with the level where it is and probably will be Thursday? I am wondering about portaging, logs to cross or will the level be high enough to not do much of that. I will only be in the new canoe twice now and it is semi-stable (ie: stepping in and out and bumping over logs).

Deb, I may also make it, depending on what happens the night before. Thanks for putting this together...

Deb,
What do Gary and need to bring to drink? Or are you suppling the cider?
Also, you bringing the stuff to heat it up with?

Sorry you won't be with us Gretchen. Have a great year and hope to see you soon.

I have been prevailed upon to move the meeting time back to 10:00AM for all those late night partyers.

I will still have the Red Hot Cider. Bring you own lunch or snacks or anything else you want.

Portages are highly unlikely at this level but as you know things change, trees fall etc. In life, there are no guaratees. :poke:

FYI, DeBo and I are headed up to Russellburg to bring in the New Year with the Staggs clan, but the trip is still on for tomorrow. Do not be dismayed if any further questions are not answered tonight - the trip is still very much "On!"

Thank you Cowper and Debo for showing us the way through the bayou today. Great day to start the new year. Nice to meet Martin for the first time. Newcomers Teresa and Ed paddled with us and glad to have them along. The hot cider was the best Deb. Thanks again to Martin, Cowper and Gary for all your help, you know what I mean. Enjoyed paddling with all our friends today, new and old.
