First time on the Frog
First time on the Frog
Today was my first time on the Frog. Went from Lancaster to Rudy. Great run. I loved the waves and the level. I was very surprised at the scenery as well. Can not wait to hit it again. It was after 4 when I put on so I booked it. Finished at about 6. Next time I will stop and play.
...Well I guess theres nothing wrong with what you say, but don't sell me their can't be better ways..

It's the best kept secret in class 2 paddling! Two hours is really moving! 5 hrs is about my pace. Next time we get a weekend day on it, I'm going!

Re: First time on the Frog
Because of yesterday had to do it again today. Could not find anyone to go with so I figured I would go and have my gf come and get me at Rudy. A nice police officer gave me a ride back up. He said he did a chase at over 80 mph over the bridge at lancaster wtf wow! Anyways I think the ledges at the 2nd railroad crossing are better at the level today than yesterday. I think today was a 3.7 maybe ? Anyways there is a dead bloated cow on one of the turns in a bunch of debris. Def. why you should never drink river water without a filter.

Re: First time on the Frog
It could have been, I did not see the head just the swelling body and thought it was a cow.

Re: First time on the Frog
Actually, I think the Frog is more fun in a kayak as it gets lower, generally speaking. In fact, I once compiled a playboater's guide to the Frog... let's see where did I put that... Oh, yeah, there it is:

It's probably a bit outdated, but still should be pretty relevant I suppose. The main difference is that when it refers to "short boats", that's pretty much all of them these days (written when boats averaged about 10 feet!). Also, the surfing wave not too far from the end of the run is just about gone now completely. The river picked a new channel at that rapid, and it is no more.

Also some old info on Lee is here: http://www.ozarkpages.com/whitewater/tales/leelev.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. I love the old descriptions of Buck-N-Flush rapid there! Man, you used to have to work to get out of that hole. It's like an old friend who used to whup your a** wrestling with you passed away. Ah well, there's still the first hole on West Cedar at high water... :)
Kinda fun to go back and read this stuff. It's mostly all linked from this page: http://www.ozarkpages.com/gauge_levels.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; which has quite a bit of good info even today.
