How do you transport that thing? 69lbs, 9' sounds like it would need a trailer? Just curious. It sounds like something my son would like.

That weight includes the frame and oars, too... It's all in a nice carry-bag that fits into the trunk of most cars... It really isn't particularly heavy. once you get to the put-in, you can haul the pieces to water's edge & set the frame up & then put the tubes under it & oars... It's really no big deal!:) It would be a great rig for a 12 or 13 year-old kid to fish from or even go up to probably Class II plus moving water, with a little experience. You have gotten some great advise from experienced boaters that will help you make decisions about what best suits your needs. My first boat was a recreational kayak and I enjoyed it very much but have now switched to canoes. I still use the kayak for short recreational paddles but when I want to spend the day on the water in dry comfort the canoe is the only way to go. Canoes catch more wind and have more drag than kayaks but this can be easily handled by packing a kayak paddle to use if you get into current or a strong head wind. I purchased a used Wenonah Fisherman recently and although it is a tandem it can easily be paddled as a solo. My friends lovingly refer to her as "Heavy Duty Judy" because the boat is so wide. You cannot turn this boat over unless you throw yourself over the side on purpose. It really tracks and paddles well despite it's width ((39") and length (14'). It weighs 46 lbs and I can load it on top of my camper myself despite having a bad back. The dark green color blends well on the water and in the woods. I found it on this board and bought it used for a very reasonable price. My third boat is a used Mohawk Solo 13 which I found advertised on the board. Also a very stable boat but only 30" wide. It gets around extremely well on the swamp tours we often go on and is very nimble and easy to paddle. Watch the for sale page and also check Craigs list and visit OOO to demo boats and talk to them about what you think might fit your needs. They are great folks. Be on the lookout for blemished boats that will sell at a reduced price. Most of these "blems" have such small flaws you can hardly see them but you will save hundreds of dollars doing this, which will leave you MORE money to buy MORE boats.
