I like that these have eVent. Has anyone tried them yet?

I have a kayak self support tapered bag like the one in the URL. Used it maybe a couple times and it may be very strong, but the fabric just seems lightweight to me. I guess perception is reality and they may be very good. Try them out and see if they work for you.

My choice of tapered bags is the ones made by Prijon and I got mine from the wildwasser online store they may now be available locally, check and see.

Like most stuff from Germany, these bags are simple and over built and mine have been in use for many years. The main fabric is heavyweight bomber with a lighter weight top section for rolling down the seal. These are my favorites. I loaned mine to Tom Burroughs for a MFS trip and he gave them high marks.

On kayak self support I use the large size Prijons in the back and put one of the small ones between my legs in the cockpit. Lunch goes in the front unit and clothing etc goes in the stern units. Having a bag up front, I know this could be a safety hazard but so far it has worked for me. I attach the front end of the bag to the water bottle straps or a self installed strap thru the bulkhead and leave the back of the bag free. As always, this is a personal decision as far as safety and every one makes their own decision to do it or not. Always test boat modifications like this until you are confident it will work for you in a emergency exit.

I also have one of the watershed rear tapered bags. This thing is also pretty much bomber and dry as it has the zip loc seal. Size tho is pretty small. Have used it a lot on trips for spare fleece etc and air bags.

NOC used to use these things on their kayak instruction classes for lunch in the instructor boats. Which means the product got big time heavy use and stood up as far as I know.

Bottom line advice from me is if you want lots of storage space get the Prijon units. If your storage space requirements are not that great and you want a unit that is pretty much water and air tight for use as a air bag as well, get the watershed unit.

Or do as I did and get a combo.

I used Sea To Summit dry bags backpacking through the Sierras this summer. For being made of waterproof fabric, they're definitely tough. I finally managed to split one compressing it in my pack with too much air in it. The eVent would have prevented that though.

I didn't realize Wildwasser was Prijon. CKS and Outdoorplay both carry the Wildwasser Small Overnighters. You get a set of two for $57.95. They're around 1000 cu.in. like the Watershed bags though. The Sea To Summit's are over 2000 cu.in., so I'll probably give them a try.
