Instructor Update options?

Post by BEubanks » Mon Aug 04, 2008 2:54 pm

Anyone know of any opportunities to do the instructor update required to keep certification current. Mine runs out at the end of this year. I got the email from ACA about the National Instructor Conference October 31-Nov 2, but don't know if I can swing a trip to Virginia for that. Anyone else from ACC going to that conference or been to one before?

Well . . . maybe. That long of a drive for a weekend trip doesn't appeal to me. I was thinking more about flying, if I go. I've already checked and the ACA does arrange for boats for participants flying in. So wouldn't have to hassle with checking a kayak.

You might want to shoot Kim Tucker an email or pm...I don't think she checks the board too often so she might not see your post, but I think she is coordinating IDW/ICE's in the Spring of '09 when updates can also be done. I know you said yours expires this year, but I believe there might be a way to get an extention on that (probably a form you need to send in to ACA). Might be worth checking into.

Cheers,
Heather

Yeah, Kim is the one with the answer. I was too lazy to look up her email and was also curious if others had participated in the national conference. If we're doing an instructors' class next spring, I'm pretty sure I can get an extension until then and cover it that way. I do kinda like the idea of rubbing shoulders with some of the other instructors on the national level and paddling some new water in VA.

Byron --

I walked into the house last night and heard a familiar voice on TV, looked up saw it was you! Good job! I don't know anyone who has been to the national instructor updates, but Dee and I did go to the 1st WW Symposium which offered the same type of updates. It was great! You should do it if you can.

If you can't do that, get an extension and we'll have something next spring to get you updated. Or, like Dave said, DO BOTH!

Both would be great, but a trip to VA may be more $ than I can swing. Maybe I'll ask for some continuing ed funding from OBU and get lucky.

Have you looked at the agenda for this thing? Classroom work starts at 8:00 on Friday and goes all day. Definitely not designed as a pleasure trip. But then again, nothing wrong with enjoying your work, right?
