Where to paddle -Little Rock, Conway area?

Post by jonest » Mon Mar 16, 2015 7:54 am

Good Morning Everyone,
I'm looking for a calm creek/river in the Little Rock/Pinnacle/Conway area. The person that I'm taking is a flat water paddler, so it can't be more than class II stream. The last time we paddled together was the Little Maumelle from the I-430 bridge toward Pinnacle in 14' sea Kayaks. At that time the water was a bit low and was unable to make it all of the way to Pinnacle St. Park.
If you know of anything in the area worth exploring, I would appreciate details (put in, take out, etc.)
Oh, this time around, we'll be paddling river runners, not the aircraft carriers.

Thank you in Advance.

Tim

I'd suggest Palarm Creek, off 365 in Mayflower. Nice small creek, flat water with great scenery. The creek can get blocked by fallen logs making it impassible for power boats...if your lucky you can get past and have the creek to yourself.

Google palarm park or link attached.

I recommend checking out the Grassy Lake Water Trail in the Bell Slough Wildlife Management Area.

Directions:
South of Mayflower on Highway 365, turn east onto Grassy Lake Road. (An Arkansas Game & Fish sign is near the intersection.)
Travel under Interstate 40 & turn right at the Stop sign.
Go over the Palarm Creek bridge & drive about a mile (at each intersection bear left but ignore any gated roads even if the gate is open)
Turn left at the large AG&F green sign.
Continue on this winding road for about 0.7 mile. Ignore the road on the left and continue straight ahead to the large parking lot.

Alternate Route (And the only route when Grassy Lake Road under I-40 is flooded.)
At the junction of I-40 and Highway 89, travel south on the Frontage Road/Interstate Drive. (Bear right at each intersection until you reach Grassy Lake Road). Then follow the above directions.

Thank you for the suggestions. We had to abort our plans, but will definitely be visiting these two sites soon.
Thanks Again.
