SUP

Post by Aekennedy » Sat Mar 02, 2013 1:20 pm

Is anyone stand-up paddling in the Little Rock area? I actually live in Benton, but work in LR. I'm a stand-up paddler that would love to know where people are paddling and to see if anyone is interested in joining in on the fun!

I SUP. I've been doing some local streams like the saline river, Cadron and Cove creek. Are you interested in moving water or are you just interested in lakes?

Thanks for the reply Doug.

Lakes would e easiest for me to go alone so the put-in/take-out points are the same. I haven't figured out yet how to manage the distance of the rivers where I'd start at one point, and finish miles away. Do you paddle alone? What do you do in this case? May I ask where some of your favorite starting places are?

I'd love to start paddling more moving water but will need to start with some easier locations. I've paddled one river in Costa Rica, and it was pretty brutal! Otherwise, I'm mainly a SUP surfer. With no surf around here, I'm really just looking to get out on the water...any water...to paddle.

I SUP on Lake Ouachita and Lake Catherine in Hot Springs area - and when the wind gets up, you will get to surf the white caps. Lake Sylvia is a little closer, located just west of Little Rock in the National Forest, a good small lake to paddle Memorial Day to Labor Day when the Forest Service has it open. The Arkansas River has some quiet backwater areas on the north Little Rock side accessed through Burns Park boat ramps. There is another small lake in the Benton area whose name escapes me at moment, but it does have a public access area. I'd ask at Ozark Outdoors for other LR area suggestions, ask the staff at Ouachita Outdoor Outfitters for Hot Springs suggestions. (Its worth the drive to Hot Springs for clear water lakes to paddle.)
