Now we're getting somewhere . "Poor" Chesapeake and SEECO are probably not paying their "fair share"

Whatever man. Sounds like you want to spout 'GasLand' yet won't even consider something that might debunk your little fantasy. I'm done with this line of conversation.

To anyone with an even remotely open mind: I suggest watching the documentary and let it speak for itself. That's all I really had to say.

Thanks

After one last comment...

Before we go taking the word of one little turd of a guy who's entire world is predicated upon lies he fomented in a so-called "documentary" and killing of the evil rich corporations that enable us to take advantage of this boon for jobs, energy, economic growth, etc. etc., we better be DAMN sure he's telling the truth. That's all I have to say. Before we blindly follow the pied piper of emotional knee-jerk policy foisted on us these days, maybe we ought at least look in on it first? Besides, think of all the wealth you would have to redistribute..

DB, thanks for the compliment. You embarass me. But I don't need Gasland to influence me. And using the term "turd' to describe someone you disagree with doesn't score points. In fact, you lose points for name-calling.

So, you've been in the business since '07?

I got a few years in between 1975 and 1999 dealing in drilling and completion fluids. Enjoy the ride while you can.

I watch the drain on our resources. I am sitting in the middle of the drilling and pipeline area of the Fayetteville Shale. My opinions on this and our national energy policy are based on facts and observations.

As for Chesapeake not paying their share? Well, anybody seen the Reuter's series on that particular company and it's founder, Aubrey McClendon? There's a bunch more stories on that site if you look.

I'm outta here!

Not to mention the stupid severance tax deal these "citizens" leveraged with the state.

I am merely against tearing them down due to a farce of a documentary, rather than because of cold, hard facts. If the science bears out that they are violating both law and the environment, then I'll be the first to suggest they hang. And I don't normally stoop to name-calling, but in this case feel entirely justified in my characterization of Josh Fox. Also, I'm not trying to score points with anyone. I just want the truth for all.

Nobody is talking about tearing them all down. I wasn't talking about them "not paying their fair share" or whatever other conclusions you want to jump to. To me it makes sense that they get some deferential treatment from the Feds being that they are a 5 billion dollar a year plus industry within the state, but that doesn't excuse the fact that 45% of the time they don't even follow those rules. When the stakes are pollution of our streams (and possibly our groundwater) that's not cutting it. They do have incredible profits and it would only be responsible of the industry to do a better job insuring that their environmental impact is as small as possible. The only way to get them to continue cleaning up their act (which they have by all accounts been doing a better job of recently) is to hold them accountable; not just taking them at their word. Personally, I feel that as a kayaker I have a selfishly vested interest in maintaining the water quality of the state, and don't think it's even rational to think that the O&G's share the same views. Their actions don't show so.

@Danny - I have not seen Gasland. I haven't insinuated that I have seen it. The only one of us referencing a documentary made by someone pushing a viewpoint is you, and you have not brought any facts to this conversation. Like I said before, the truth is probably somewhere in between those two films, but it's not good enough until it's way closer to the film you keep pushing. That's all from me.

Just to quibble a bit, db, but I thought George Carlin said that thing arguing with idiots. It is on the internet. This could be my clue!

http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/445589- ... -bring-you" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

As for facts? In this day and age, they are what one chooses regardless of what they are in reality. With no real press as in the day before the 24-"news" channel, claims (lies) go unchallenged by the media since they are owned by big business. I understand the incestuous relationship that exists between government, business, and the "fourth estate" as they once were deemed. Neutered like the dog that never saw it coming.

Besides, I read somewhere that we are getting to ready to convert this new-found gas into fertilizer so that we can grow more genetically-modified crops. Hey, it was on the internet. :shh:

Did you read the Reuter's article on Chesapeake's behavior regarding their actions toward lease-holders? If that is legal, then they have de-criminalized theft by fraud. Due to their behavior, they sold their rights in Arkansas to satisfy their debt obligations. Good stuff.

And you justify all you want!!

And prophet, don't even think about my milkshake with your directional drilling ideas. Especially when I have a milkshake! :NoNo:
