UALR POOL SESSION Jan 16 & 19

Post by we66erno1 » Tue Jan 15, 2013 1:46 pm

A couple of things everyone:
1. If your boat has airbags, please make sure there isn't any debris hiding under them. Had some issues last week, with leaves and other river stuff getting in the pool.
2. The pool session is open to non-boaters. Please do not impede anyone swimming in the lanes and give other non-boaters plenty of room. If you have to cross a lane, please wait for the swimmer to clear your path. Almost had a lane swimmer hit by a boat last week.
3. There will be a sprayer hooked up to the water hose. Please make sure to use it to rinse out your boat!

The UALR pool is open for all boaters, both Wednesday and Saturday.

Wednesday the session is from 6pm-8pm(must be out of the building by 8:30)

Saturday is 2pm-5pm

And I'll say it again. Remember to rinse out all of those boats before getting in!

Thanks again for picking up the ball on coordinating these events.

I think I'll try to drop by a pet store today, and get one of those little fish nets that are used for goldfish, etc., and I'll bring a diving mask.

We can do better, but from past experience I know a few leaves are going to slip by. BUT - I think it will make a huge difference if while one of us is rolling up the hose at the end of the session, one person "polices" the pool bottom and gets out any leaves that previously escaped us. Someone else can walk the pool perimeter and get anything found there. It's a 2 hour session; we can give up the last 15 minutes to pick up and make sure we protect our future access to this wonderful resource!

I will be there, unless I'm somewhere else. It is going to be an awful nice day out, and the adopt a mile highway cleanup is tomorrow.
I would like to take a moment to inform/remind all, that Tom had mentioned a couple of years ago it took a couple of extra times "shocking" the pool to bring the water quality back, after having an issue like which had never happened before.
After a conversation with Tom, and the reflection and thoughts of other aquaholics, I attribute the cause to have been either stale funky boat water and or droppings (insert your own) which might have had an effect on said leftover stale boat water. Another possibility might be the wearing of funky "foul" neoprene booties or other infected gear. I have to admit I am an owner of a couple of pair of some rather foul smelling booties. Heaven only knows what could be growing in them. however I have never worn mine in the pool.
So please everyone, pre rinse your boat if at all possible before you leave home, and with an occasional cap full of bleach every once in a while to kill off some of that fungus amoungus. Deflating or removing airbags will help dislodge any leftovers from the creek.
Clean gear will help assure us many more years of use of a heated indoor Olympic size pool for practice.

Can anyone guess how many years we have already been using this pool? (Coup, your exempt from answering)

Bob,
At least 18 years so I'll guess at 21. I can remember when the overflow was the hot creek boat and it had just come out. There was always a guy in one doing hand rolls. Ah. The preinternet paddle to the rockport ledge under the overpass days.
