Fourche on Friday pix

Post by perspective7 » Sat Jan 12, 2013 4:17 pm

I think there were about ten of us that ended up at the Fourche on Friday. We had a flat tire with a spare that wouldn't come loose, I lost my keys (please check for them in the grass in front of the bathrooms if you head down there), and two swims and one pin...other than that it was a pretty good day on the river. There's a few more pix on my FB page.

Thanks for posting the pics. It was nice to meet and paddle with you Seth. It was nice to. Meet and paddle with everyone, including the river, for that matter!

Do you have to put the adapter( that is likely in your glove box) on the crank before you insert it? On my Ford you must put the adapter on first or you can crank all day and the tire sits there and laughs at you!! Been there, done that

I looked at my truck and it has a different lowering mechanism...u tried a sledge or perhaps some more extreme measures such as a cutting torch ;)

That middle piece (not the cable) has got to be hung on something...I can't see any other reason that it wouldn't come down..I'm still annoyed by it

Our Spec Op teams are equipped with plasma torches. Volunteer to be a casualty in a river anti-debris campaign and we may help you

On my 1981 Ford F-150, that spare was held up there with a long threaded rod and large wing nut, you can imagine what a pain in the neck it was to have to lay down on your back in the mud and wrestle with that rig...
Luckily, my 2002 F-250 has the bumper access, like yours. The couple of times I've had to lower it to change a flat, everything worked like a charm. I don't know of a more handy place to store the spare that wouldn't otherwise be in the way however, as much dirt and grit as collects in that area. it's probably a good policy to lower it every now and then to clean and lubricate the mechanism. On my own truck, I can't even ckeck the air pressure in the spare without lowering it, so I try and do so at least once a year.

Best Regards
Jim Moose
