New to Kaying

Any groups or clubs in the Little Rock area that meet and float and hang out?

DUH?? Do ya know how to read, Shane? You obviously joined ACC . . .
We do all of those things and much more. (But I don't think many of us have been KAYING, so maybe you can tell us how that's done??)
Welcome to the club. Meet up with us & float. :yahoo:

Welcome!

There are several different "disciplines" in kayaking, so the answer to your question may depend on what type of kayaking you're looking for.

If you're looking for folks that paddle longer touring and sea kayaks on things like the Arkansas River, then someone else will have to give you the scoop on the Little Rock scene.

If you're thinking more about typical river kayaking with some WW, then two things to check out would be the Wednesday night roll practice sessions at the UALR swimming pool for learning and practicing your eskimo roll, and the summer scene at the Rockport Whitewater Park (Malvern), which is about to kick off Memorial Day weekend. For "hanging out" with other boaters, you're not going to beat that one - there will be people there every saturday and sunday from Memorial Day until Labor day, and it is only 45 minutes from LR.

Hi Shane,

I think you are the same person I met at the Little Maumelle drop in. You had the tan angler kayak iirc. I'm the guy that was there with the rigged out kayak with my buddy. I had the olive green Manta Ray. If this is the same shane, my buddy and I are regulars and need to meetup for some river adventures. I cant seem to find the # you gave me @ the drop in since it was on my old phone I swapped out recently.

here's a short video I made the time I saw you out there... (before it started raining. heh) We were just testing things out. I now have a waterproof camera so I can mount it and be hands free.

We plan on going out to Ouchita next weekend to scope out places to island camp (when it get's cooler) if you want to check it out. (the main reason I put a motor on the yak.. some of those islands are pretty far to paddle with camping gear, etc and I can tow 2-3 others also.

Holler at me if you get this...

Julian

sweet. We're going out this Saturday if the weather holds up. It looks like it may rain which is good as long as it stops by Saturday.

If it's up, let's meet at the same drop in at Pinnacle Mountain. We usually head out around 5-6am, then go until the 100deg weather starts beading down.

I will shoot you over a message to your phone when I find out about what time we'll be out there.

Thanks,

Julian.

No, maybe a couple miles, had my son with me so we took my canoe that time. We just floated mostly fished then the heat came on, headed back, lol.

Not to hijack yall's thread, but I am in the same area and just getting into kayak fishing. My Nucanoe Frontier 12 is rated up to class 2 so I would be down for lakes or rivers. I have been searching kayakbassfishing.com for Arkansas folks and not finding many.

Chris, as Cowper said, your Nucanoe would be fine on the Remmel to Rockport run. That's less than an hour from Little Rock and is a fun little float that will cool you down nicely. Not sure how the fishing would be during the release, or any other time for that matter. That would be a question for Jim Krueger. The Buffalo is a farther drive of course, but I highly recommend it for float fishing (you may already be familiar with it). There's a nice little class one float between Dillard's Ferry and Rush, and the fishing is great between Buffalo Point and Rush. Your boat would be fine there as well.
You come too.

We go out every Saturday... and if you're in Maumelle, you have a few places you can drop in right near you. We usually go out early and are at the dock by 6-7am if you want to join us. I can pm you the next time we go out. (prob saturday if the weather permits)
