Question on a cascade helmet with wire face protection

Found the cascade full face protection helmet made of wire front online. Anyone have or had these helmets. Would like some opinions. I tried the sweet rocker full face and that didn't work for me.

If anyone knows about these, where is best place to order them. Outdoor play has them but how is there return policy and doing business with them?

I had one a long time ago and cannot remember why I stopped using it.

If memory correct Cascade was one of the cheaper kayak helmets similar to the Pro Tec lines at the time. They were cheap but I wore a Pro Tec for many years before moving to the more expensive glass helmet.

My thought on the wired full face helmets (sometimes called hockey style helmets) is if you get used to peering through the wire, they offer decent protection. I have one of the expensive glass full face kayak / snow rider helmets and altho it gives great chin protection, seems to me it leaves the nose area open to a nice whack from a rock or even a oar bounce back.

My opinions only so take it for what it is worth and do your own research as things may well have changed.

You might also google for hockey helmets, I know a lot of folks used to wear this style helmet and were happy with it. For a number of years I have been wearing European snow ski helmets and extremely happy with them. They are built to pretty stringent helmet specifications.

I use Scott's and it has saved my face a few times. And anyway, I thought you bought the Rocker?

Renee, the rocker did not work for me. I could not bend my head down, the bottom piece kept me from it and my vest sticks out too much. Plus it was as tight as it could be and too loose. Also my nose was really close to the end of the guard on the bottom (have long nose). Looking for something that would work better. I have found the cascade on line and maybe the wire front will work better but would have to order it and not sure til I try it out.

Dave thanks for your input. I won't know on the cascade til I try it on and see. It says it does leave a view to see better. I would have to order online then send back if it don't work. If you come up with another idea let me know. Otherwise I like my current helmet sweet wanderer real well so if I stay with that I will have to duck my head for sure.

WRSI makes a nice setup and the folks I know that use WRSI all like them, don't know of a full face owner but check the WRSI web site

I have a Shred Ready helmet (no face guard model) and really do like it for general wear due to the light weight. I was on a western river float with the owner of shred ready and he game me the helmet I have. Shred Ready also makes a full face model helmet as well. I did not find a size that fit me in the full face helmets at CKS last fall when I was in BV CO, but was impressed by the light weight of the display helmet CKS had.

Wish I had the brain power to match, but I wear a size XXL helmet and that size is hard to find. That is the reason I use the European Snow Ski race helmets which come in XXL and seem to have the same padding as a motorcycle helmet IE more than many of the kayak helmet padding I see on the market.

Dave, I have a shred ready but it hurt my forehead. I tried at OOO the sweet helmet with same type shield as the rocker for the face. Still won't protect my nose that much I didn't think. Most of the shred readys don't fit me good. I like my sweet wanderer as it fits well and very comfortable. I had it on when I went down the tot at the esses. Just wish they made a wire face shield for it. Still looking. If you find or hear of something that might work, let me know. Thanks

I forget the brand of the helmet, but i know there is one with a "gnar" bar. Kind of an old school football facemask look.

I too have a big nugget and can't ever find wear for the nugget, but I've been happy with my wrsi and sweet. I'm not real sure how well the full face attachment for the wrsi would protect the nose area. I believe Matt wore one for a bit, he might have a little more insight. My wife has a wrsi and likes it as well. The shred readys do tend to run a bit smaller from expirence.

karla, i have two cages that fit a pro tec helmet. they belong to john mcnee in jacksonville. one is an aluminum patterned after the steel one he bought. the steel one was made for primex by schutt mfg. if you are interested, i will have a pic posted. jack danielson
