What has changed with the Frog Bayou gauge?
What has changed with the Frog Bayou gauge?
The Frog Bayou gauge appears to be reading nearly half of what it was as recently as last Fall. Monday evening, it crested at 8.24 feet according to the gauge and, at that level, it came up in my yard and I had about 8" of water in my shop and shed. Last September, it came up into my yard and I had about 3-4" of water in my shop, yet the gauge read 17.01 feet. Am I comparing apples to oranges somehow, or did something change?

something changed. i think its all the bulldozing done in the streambed severl years ago has let stuff move around and widen the channel
Re: What has changed with the Frog Bayou gauge?
I could see that affecting the volume of water over a certain period of time that is necessary to reach a certain level on the gauge, but how could that change the reading if the gauge itself hasn't moved. It seems to me that the level of my backyard relative to a given level on the gauge can't change unless one of these two variables changes.

you might get a chance to re-check your numbers tonight
Re: What has changed with the Frog Bayou gauge?
If it comes into the yard again, I'm going to get my boat out of the shed just to say I've paddled my back yard.

I think it's broken right now.
Is it actually at 1.33? Since the Frog usually holds decent I would guess it's probably running right now.

I think it has been broken for several days, maybe some debris or something has clogged up on it.
"wherever there's water"
Re: What has changed with the Frog Bayou gauge?
I drove down there about 30 minutes ago, when the USGS site was indicating 1.46. The gravel bar that everyone swims from was still exposed, so the actual level wasn't unsually high. If it keeps doing what it's doing right now, though, I'll be moving stuff again. If we catch a break in the rain, I'll do it sooner than later. ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

It's screwed up.
That's a technical term. :) Not accurate for quite a while anymore and I don't know who to consult to get the real scoop.
