Mill Bridge on the Cadron - a good put in???
I'm wondering why I've not seen the Mill Bridge on here as a put in on the Cadron Creek. I passed there today. Lots of folks were enjoying the creek. It's a beautiful, easy put in spot. Is there a reason we do not use it??

Re: Mill Bridge on the Cadron - a good put in???
Jan,
About 9 years ago Marlo and I made our first trip on the Cadron, we were put-in near the town of Quitman and floated the 12 miles or so back down to Cadron Creek Outfitters. When we crossed under the Mill Bridge, I too wondered about it as an access. When I asked about it later I was told that the local landowners weren't too keen about it. I haven't been back there but have recently thought more about it. Looking at it recently on Google Earth 'street view', it didn't look like much parking opportunities. I'll look forward to seeing it again and hearing others opinions.
From floating all this section, it seems to me that the float from Mill Bridge to Hwy 65 might be nearly 15 miles or so, too long for me... and the best WW features are mainly in the last 6 or 7 miles.
Best Regards
Jim

20 years ago that was the "normal" float on the Cadron. The put-in and parking area were on the downstream side of the bridge. The landowners simply got tired of all the trash and associated problems with allowing access and mostly ended all access and strongly discouraged any use of that access.

About 13.7 miles... It is weird because the Arkansas map shows the bridge as a launch site. It is easier than the the Pinnacle bridge, but not as good as the 65 and the 285. The best part is the section from pinnacle to 65, but it is so short. The other sections are nice and have some rapids, but several flat stretches. I am not sure if this link will work.

O.K. I'm giving you guys a "heads up" do not use the Mill Bridge to launch into the Cadron. Dr. Svensons brother and I did about three or four years ago and the results were not good.

I launched there last year or the year before and didn't have any trouble. There enuf room to park one or two vehicles without blocking the road to down under the bridge. Or you can 4x4 to under the bridge. Like everywhere else, I think it's just who comes along, not sure if the landowner minds anymore or not.

I thought I'd go over there again, talk to some folks there, ask how to get permission to use the area/put in, inside the fenced area. I wonder if someone just charges to get in the gate. Or if there's a place like Mrs. Helton's door to leave $$.

The southwest side of the bridge has a picnic like area. The gate said use by permission only. I don't know who owns it, or I would probably offer some time or money to use it. The northwest side is a shooting club or something now.

Re: Mill Bridge on the Cadron - a good put in???
I used it at least once last year, and went down there two or three other times just to look around. No problems were experienced, but that could just be the luck of the draw.
Most times I visited, I tried to address some of the trash issues; I'd recommend anyone using that access pick up a garbage bag's worth of trash and try to make it obvious by putting the trash bag near your parked vehicle.

Trash: Get a little every time you go!

Phone numbers are posted on both sides of the river downstream of the bridge, at the private park and the bird farm. Any body call yet?
The "road" by the bridge has been intentionally blocked and is VERY washed out. No signs or purple tho

You sure this is on the right channel?
