Fall and Winter Wetlands Touring Schedule (UPDATED 11/16)
Fall and Winter Wetlands Touring Schedule (UPDATED 11/16)
Fall and Winter Wetlands Touring
Sorry this has taken so long for me to get going this year but here at last is the schedule of trips. It has been extremely dry so we may be paddling less through the trees and more in the channel this year. This will make for good wildlife viewing, however!
I will post separately for each trip. Check often; dates and locations are subject to change. I am also looking at one or two overnight trips this year.
November 6th Robe Bayou
November 14th H Lake
November 21st Cache River/ Rex Hancock Black Swamp (Cancelled due to low water and Limited access Permit Hunt)
November 27th and 28th Felsenthal (camp in refuge)
December 5th DeView if possible, if not Wattensaw
December 11th Wattensaw or DeView
January 1st Little Maumelle “ Red Hot Cider New Years Float”
Note: Robe Bayou replaced the Wattensaw float which is now on the date previously reserved for Bayou DeView. DeView is far to dry now anyway. If we get rain I will squeeze in an additional trip to DeView. It is really too beautiful to miss. I really hope it rains!
11/16 UPDATE: I’ve cancelled the Nov 21 float; during a “scouting” trip on 11/13, Cowper and I discovered the Cache refuge will be CLOSED that date to all users except holders of a special permit for deer hunting. We also found that only pools of water remain, there is not enough for any “through” floats from one point to another. Stay tuned for additional updates; I’m studying some of the hunting regulations, and will adjust times and dates if needed to minimize the potential for conflicts with hunters.

Re: Fall and Winter Wetlands Touring Schedule
Looks like a great line up to me. Plan to make as many as possible. And the new year's float right down the road. How convenient.
Stay in the main channel. Yeah, right!
Thanks Debo,
Mike

Looking forward to seeing old friends and catching up on all the news of your summer activities.

Can anyone come? Being that I am a newcomer to kayaking, can someone tell me how is the best way to dress for cold weather kayaking.
Thanks :)
Thanks :)
Re: Fall and Winter Wetlands Touring Schedule
Absolutely!
As to dressing for paddling, there was a thread not too long ago on exactly that question. Instead of repeating, follow this link:

Hi Debo, about what time will the Wattensaw trip start? I have to work the Friday night before but if its not super early I am thinking of coming up.
Re: Fall and Winter Wetlands Touring Schedule
Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in the craft. Unsurprisingly it sank, proving once again that you can't have your kayak and heat it too.

That's funny, even if it is dry!
We will be meeting for the Wattensaw trip at 10AM in Hazen. I hope that's not too early.

Re: Fall and Winter Wetlands Touring Schedule
Looks like I got my new canoe just in time! I can't wait to get some swamp gunk on my Odyssey. I've been looking forward to the fall schedule since Felsenthal. The overnighters sound like a fun addition this year! I'm going to have to miss the first trip, though, due to a family weekend we've had planned for some time.
I'll look forward to reading the first trip report and seeing everyone on the second scheduled tour.
Have fun!
Carl
