Spring, Eleven Point, North Fork...

This is a little late, but if anyone is ever up on the North Fork and wants a great place to stay, I would recommend a little place called River of Life Farm. It is run by a man called Myron Mcgee, and chances are that you may have passed a concrete bridge built by the Mcgee family in the 50s I think. I was fortunate enough to be able to meet Myron as a teenager, and even helped him build his first tree cabin facing the North Point. If you want to have a wonderful experience, rent one of his tree cabins. I also believe he is willing to cater to tent campers on his land as well. I'm not normally a big proponent of cabin camping, having a tendency to sleep on an open cot when I can, but this place is awesome. I hope to return to that beautiful place one of these years, and I can only hope it is as gorgeous now as it seemed in my youth...

Several months ago we looked into staying in one of these tree cabins.

We were also going to float down to this person’s property while we were doing it. He not only wanted to charge us for running a shuttle, which I was okay with, but also wanted to charge us for taking out on his property, where we would have already been renting one of his cabins. I tried to discuss this point with him, but instead he kept trying to shift the conversation to saving my immortal soul.

No way was I going to pay to take out on a property where I was already renting a cabin and I didn’t think I would enjoy staying at a place where I had already been judged as “damned”. If he thought this by just a phone conversation, I could just image what he would have thought when he met me! The words "cult", and "kool-ade", kept coming to mind.

Needless to say, we took a pass on this place.

I don't remember him being like that, but what can I say? Terry, if you do indeed end up in the lake of fire, I know you'll be paddling around in it with your camera, and a cooler full of beer...Here's the scary part, your camera won't switch off auto mode, your canoe is an old Alumacraft that leaks, and the beer is THE BEAST!!!!
I'm sorry for your unpleasant experience with Myron, and hope you keep on floatin the North Fork.

I didn’t think the experience was unpleasant so much as strange, Jon. Of course, I was somewhat less than thrilled about paying to take out at a place where I was already renting a cabin, and had hired a shuttle from though. And needless to say, he is right about my immortal soul! But it was a little weird talking about doing business with a business owner and total stranger who kept steering the conversation in that direction. If that’s what I wanted to talk about, I’m pretty sure I would have called someone else. In fact, you would have been my first choice for that!

But I will say this. I checked his site before I made the call, and the place looked awesome. I still want to park it for a weekend in one of those trees!

And your vision of the lake of fire just accurately described my “life”, Jon!

Is it possible I have already gotten there and someone just forgot to tell me?

no offense to anyone, but the name "River of Life" seems to indicate his religous bent. more power to him and his desire to serve his master of choice.

Terry, there are those poor souls in this world that have never been in a canoe or in the woods hunting waterfalls. Never had the life changing experience of swimming a class III or IV... I think we should start our own little religion and force our "green" "enviro-nutter" views on some other people, as it seems to be the popular thing to do with other religions. Any ideas on what to call it?

I agree with the others. The Eleven Point is nice.
The tree houses look nice also.
I'm glad that I enjoy canoe camping though.

I agree with Richard the Eleven point is a lot better water clearity I have visited both today and yesterday I like the point better as far as the north fork travel up to a place in MO called Dawt mills they have campsites and shuttle service and a great staff with cold A** water and super clear love it
