I am trying to salvage a club novice ww trip for this weekend. Due to the obvious lack of water, I'm looking at Cadron Creek, Caddo River, or Ouachita River. I really don't know much about these. I ran the Dragover section of the Ouachita years ago, but don't remember much other than one minor Class II. If anyone could make a suggestiion as to the best options, it would really be helpful.
Thanks in advance.
Paddlingly yours,

Re: Novice WW trip - help
TJ,
We had a pretty good slug of rain in South Central Ark. over the weekend but the week is looking sunny and dry with the streams continuing to fall. There is currently a slight chance of more precip. on Friday but that looks slight at present. I would go ahead and plan to come if you like but check the weather again on Friday. All three of the streams you mentioned would be good for a novice WW trip. With adequate water, the Cadron would be my first choice, then the Caddo. I really like the Dragover section of the Ouachita also, and it looks like the one that will hold it's water best if we don't get any more this week. The only downside of Dragover compared to the others is it's only half the length of the other streams sections you might make. One up-side of Dragover is that it is one of the easiest self-shuttles anywhere and it's easy to make laps on the river. I have pictures of the 3-4 more decent rapids on Dragover if you should care to see them. At this point, I think the Caddo and Cadron will be a bit bony by the weekend.
Best Regards
Jim
