What's left for Sunday?

Post by David Mac » Sat Aug 23, 2008 5:23 pm

Having counted on the assertions of a trip leader that we were going to the Cadron at noon today I slept in and didn't find out that the trip leader had turned to the dark side and gone to the Little Mo in the early hours of the morning.

Granted the Cadron washed out to the point of flat and muddy today, but you'd think the trip leader would have at least set up a phone-a-friend pyramid to let everyone in on the change of plans. I certainly wasn't the only person to find out after the fact by reading the message board too late to play catch up.

Guess that leaves us with trying to make plans for Sunday for whatever water is left in the creeks that barely made it today and/or hoping that the ones that washed out today drop back to more entertaining levels.

Anybody know enough hydro dynamics to make predictions?

I'm sure you feel better saying that. :poke: I probably shouldn't tell you this - but Cadron was better than expected today. Several of the "usual" play spots were washed out, but a couple of new ones appeared, so we had 3 or 4 spots that were well worth staying around and surfing for awhile.

As for your unreliable trip leader, :poke: away. There is just no excuse for that type of behavior.

Oh wait, there IS an excuse ---- "Hi, I'm a kayaker!"

Well, I did at least get a call, 45 mins after I said no to everyone about the southwestern options, while jogging a mile from the subdivision.
Yes, and after chastising the Captain for even suggesting another option on their thread, and then joining him. :poke:
I even heard a new term today from several boaters to describe that particular trip leaders action.

Cadron got hit upstream again before noon, so it may rise some and be around for several days now.

Sounds like the trip leader would rather paddle with the "ELITE paddlers" :poke:
Up for a run on the Cadron tommorrow, or maybe the South Fourche, it appears to be running.

The Tot would be at low level tomorrow. Today was a really nice 3.5ish level with off and on showers. Looked like there was at least one heavy shower upstream, so it might not drop out completely. Even 3.fun is great in August!

Check the levels now, running 4.5 and with all the rain here and there probably be good to go Sun. Also we went and checked out the waves at wister and it looks to be a great park and play spot close to home. kahuna

I would not refer to us Southwest Paddlers as the dark side, just because we have the Tot, Little Mo, Baker and Crooked Creek. But I can see how you might be jealous of are clear water. :poke: As for your trip leader, I am sure her ears have been burning all day, but I am sure the water helped to cool them down here. We had one pretty scary swim at Meeks Falls today, swimmer was stuck in hydrolic below for quite a while. No injuries, but I think some have a new appreciation for whitewater. Headed out again tomorrow if you want to partake. :D :D :D

Forgot to mention the beloved Caddo, Jim would be disappointed in me if I did not mention it.

I called Chester and Cowper this morning...did they not call you and convey the message? Gosh, how crummy of them. I guess that's where the pyramid broke down. :poke:

As for any of the rest of it, I guess the only thing I can say is...

It was all Liz's fault.
I've heard that into every life a little of it must fall,
but you'll never catch me complaining about too much of that southern rain.

Well Lupe, you made me feel better .... and like Cowper said, that's kayakers!!!!
I made a change in plans at the last minute last weekend when the oppportunity to go to Dragover was offered. I felt bad but so glad I went! I'm sure my good friend understood ...so thanks Lupe ... now I know others do the same thing when opportunity stikes!
AND ....
Lupe, You should be gleaming right now ...Obviously, several people were hoping to paddle with you and you were greatly missed! What a compliment!
We are all very lucky here in Arkansas, to have so many rivers and choices! Glad all of you people got out on the rivers.... some of us had to work!

Not just the Cadron trippers either.

Nick was actually in Coogen's truck pulling out for the Little Mo when we took him and his boat out for the Tot.
