Too much boat?

I have paddled a lot of flat water, usually in a keowee or similar boat and in a canoe. I recently bought a well used perception 3D as my first whitewater boat. Is this too much boat for a newbie, or with the proper instruction can I learn to use this boat without so much swimming involved? What I really want is a good boat for frog bayou because of the proximity to home.

I think you'll be just fine the in 3D. Its a pretty responsive boat whipping into eddies..and fairly fast for a shorter whitewater boat ( oldschool shorter, not newschool ) Watch the stern however, it can be grabby in a hole...along with sidesurfing the boat can be holebait somewhat.

Front surfs well...pretty quick, great learner boat. It was actually the same boat I first got for whitewater, and I loved it.
Frog will be a good run to have it on as well...you should have loads of fun.
