Buffalo River Aug 14-16 Buffalo Pt

Post by Richard » Thu Aug 14, 2008 8:01 am

I am going to be camping at Buffalo Point Thur-Sat. We'll be in the walkin camp area. Turn left at the stop sign and its the large open field on the right. We will be paddling Spring Creek to Hwy 14. There might be a near full moon option as well. I am taking my daughter and her family. We will have 3 canoes. If anyone is going to be in the vicinity of Hwy 14 bridge, we can shuttle. Cell phone 501-450-0217.

Two weekends in a row? I'm jealous and you're a dog Richard.

Have fun, be safe, and send out good vibes. Maybe I'll at least dream of being on the water somewhere.

I have those dreams, but I'm usually upside down in them. :)

How did it go Richard? Temperature good, nights romantic?

SMG, I learned a few things.

It was romantic in the next campsite over from ours. That is . . . until after having one too many she fell into the fire. I was awaken in the middle of the night. She said things like, "how am I going to explain." Then she went to the car saying "it hurts to sit down". They drove off. Sometime later they came back and gathered up their things. I heard them drive off again. They stopped at the trash container and I heard a bunch of bottles being dropped in.

The next morning the camphost came by and said they drove to the camphost site (1am) to see if he had anything for burns. He called the rangers and they arrived with their 1st Aid Kit. When they looked in the car, seeing that she was wearing her birthday suit they turned the task over to the boyfriend since he was an Air Force first responder. The rangers instructed the couple to return to the campsite and stay there until they sobered up. They returned but just long enough to gather stuf up and go.

I also learned that caterpillars can be a whole lot worse than just a garden pest. We were about a mile down river when it started to rain pretty hard so we pulled onto a gravel bar (just below Jackpot Bluff) We sat underneath one of the canoes for about 30 minutes waiting for the rain to pass. while there my daughter picked up a caterpiller to get it out of the rain. She let it crawl on both arms. In a little while her arm started to itch and she saw little hair like things on her arm. We learned after we got home the little varment was sticking her with poison darts.

Despite the problems, we had a great trip.

Things wemt much better the week before when I took another set of grandkids.

Having said that, I would stay clear of that other campsite. Both times I was awaked in the middle of the night by romantic events.

I much prefer being on a gravel bar.

My ornithology prof referred to that as the call of the bare breasted bed thrasher.
