Big Piney

Post by fortner » Wed Jul 30, 2008 1:01 pm

I am considering a trip down the Big Piney. More than likely a simple float from Long Pool down. This is where I need a little help from you guys. When I am looking at the river levels section of the web page I understand how much water is moving through and where it registers on the gauge, but I do not understand what the means in relation to the "floatability" of the river...... I am needing some advise from someone who is more familiar with this river..... help me if you can.

Ozark Creek Summary is another handy tool:

http://www.ozarkpages.com/cgi-bin/stages.pl?ST=level

The low/medium/high levels have been determined through experience by paddlers. Since the gauge is currently below even the low rating, it might really involve an awfully high dragging/walking to actual paddling ratio right now...
I've heard that into every life a little of it must fall,
but you'll never catch me complaining about too much of that southern rain.
