303

Post by Butch Crain » Fri Jan 04, 2008 5:06 am

Will a coating of 303 applied every couple of months protect the typical vinyl boat under a tree shaded & roofed patio?

Or should all boats always be kept in an enclosed storage space?

I see a lot of outfitters boats left outside, but I figure they're pretty much disposable.

I think 303 is a good thing, do not believe it stays on long enough to work for outside storage.

My opinion is the best storage is inside totally out of the sun.

If you must keep them outside, elevate of the ground with saw horses and totally cover with a good quality sun proof tarp. Keeping them under a roofed patio would be much better than in the direct sun and you should be pretty good. Even under the patio a tarp cover would be good.

Thanks Dave. Looks like I've repurchased the home I raised my kids in. I'm going to have to use the patio though until I can enclose my carport or build additional storage space.

If you use a tarp, make sure you allow airflow. What I have read about 303, it should do the job but you have to reapply after each trip to the water. My discover 169 sits outside. The other three are garaged.

Under my carport roof I 303, then cover my rafts with a small size automobile cover from the big box store for extra sun protection. The cover supposedly "breathes" yet keeps the crud and critter spray off my toys. In my next life I'll own a barn to keep everything in.
