Cold feet

One thing I can't seem to keep warm is my feet. I'm wearing NRS Expedition socks (3mm neoprene) with water shoes already. Is there anything to wear over or under those for warmth. I'm in a playboat so size matters.

What if the socks get wet though? I tried merino wool socks with plastic bags over them this weekend. I didn't have a warm fuzzy that the bags would have kept my feet very dry if I swam though. There has got to be something out there to keep feet dry and warm. I think I'm going to email Glacier Gloves and see if they could make socks similar to their fleece lined gloves.

Update: Woah...they have fleece lined neoprene socks! Has anyone tried them???

Smart Wool socks, then 1 size larger SealSkinz waterproof socks then your Keens or Chaco sandals. Amazing. :)

All this is good information. One more tip.

I purchased a size larger boating shoe just for winter time. The extra room makes for warmer feet.

This allows my feet some wiggle room when I add on the extra layers of sox.

If you cram in extra layers, they will sometimes cut off circulation, keeping that warm blood from getting down to your feet.

It may just be me but I do better with fleece socks. Even when my feet are wet, which is usually the case, they tend to insulate better than anything else.

wool insulates when wet, usually my wool socks are soaked but my feet are still way warmer then without them.

GoreTex booties on the ends of the legs of your GoreTex dry-suit... work every time and stay dry enuf to use the same Smartwool socks when you get off the river...

Been paddling since early '70's.

Been a gear head most of the time.

Had all sorts of foot wear.

Never had warm feet till last season when I purchased a gore tex kokotat dry suit with booties sewn in.

I wear a thin liner sox next to the skin, then the thickest wool blend "duck hunter" sox I could find at Bass Pro Shop. Warm feet at last.

socks

Yep, sewn-in goretex booties are the way to go if possible.

Several years ago - before I had a dry-suit with booties I bought a pair of waterproof Seal-skin socks. They worked great for about one season, then the waterproofness wore off and the stink set in. So, I personally would not recommend this solution.

... unless you drive a pickup with a well-sealed window between you and the sox!!

I picked up some Patagonia capilene sock liners, Smart Wool adrenaline medium padding hiking socks, and some Seal Skinz waterproof socks yesterday. If I can get all of that inside my booties, I should be good! lol
