Hey guys I'm thinking about getting a buffalo this year at some point and was wanting some input on size. I am trying to decide on a 15 ft or a 16 ft. I want to use it for whitewater but also for some overnight/fishing trips. I'm not so much worried about the space but I'm wondering how much difference 1 foot makes in handling?

I'm not sure exactly which models you mean, because on their website they call them 14', 16', and 17', but list no 15' model. Their 16' model is really 15'-9", so I'm thinking maybe that is what you were referring to.

Their 16' model, which is 15'-9" long, is based on the old Blue Hole OCA design, which is now considered an "outdated" model for WW, but was in it's day head and shoulders above all other offerings. Even today, I think this is one of the most versatile models they offer, for someone who wants a good general purpose boat that can be paddled solo or tandem, used on some whitewater, and used for overnight camping trips if you don't pack too heavy. It is also more narrow than the 14', so I would choose it for solo too.

So, the 16' would be my first choice for all around use.

I didn't realize that buffalo didn't make a 15. I thought they did I guess I was wrong. I guess that pretty much makes the decision for me because I know I don't want a 17. Thanks

I don't know how you figure it Duckhunter, but in my books 15' 9" falls right in your 15 or 16 slot you are looking for. Check your tape measure again and you may find that the Buffalo 16 fits your specs!
