I don't think so, a tad bulky and heavy to lug around, but then are most hard body SOT's. and rec boats. Remember, this is not a class III or better boat. If daughter has regular serious whitewater intent, you would be wise to look upward to the Strike. (more $$, better build and more like a hardshell kayak) Not an expert here, but I think the Tomcat is certainly a very affordable and practical inflatable for beginners or intermediate paddlers, especially when purhased lightly used, as from Gravity Play. They use them for extreme races and then sell them. My second boat came from them. At the time, I think it cost $350. It came with original papers and box, very little evidence that it had ever been wet.
