Indian Creek Landing on Mulberry River
Volunteers led by Tom Perry recently completed a 145' long native rock ramp to Indian Creek just yards upstream from its confluence with the Mulberry River. Over 30 different people participated on one, or several, of the work days with a total of over 600 sweaty hours donated to the project. Tom donated his expertise, labor, and the use of his tractor and dump truck. All of the rock was pieced together without the use of concrete. The Forest Service purchased $2,500 worth of rock, the Arkansas Canoe Club pledged $1,500, and the remaining expenses were covered by donations to the Mulberry River Society. Turner Bend donated 10 large trailer loads of rock used for rip rap along the edges. Tom Perry estimates the value of this landing at around $40,000 to $50,000 with the total cost to the Forest Service limited to $2,500. This is the first project for the newly formed Mulberry River Society, but now the MRS has plans to rebuild the landing at High Bank access to the Mulberry pending Forest Service approval. Many thanks the the Arkansas Canoe Club for the financial support and for all the labor donated by ACC members.
