Wetland tour to H Lake moved to Scrubgrass Bayou 4/23/2016
I'm a little late posting as I was holding out for water levels to drop, but that hasn't happened. Roads on H Lake are still underwater. Instead we will go to Scrubgrass Bayou where we can get access to the refuge.
On it's way to the Mississippi, the White River gives a small portion of its water to Scrubgrass Bayou which travels a convoluted route to reach the Big Muddy before the White. Within one of those convolutions stands a 794 acre old growth forest of Sugarberry trees and other mixed hardwoods. There is also another lake inside the convolution. I have been on the bayou, but I have not been to the lake on the interior.
Our mission on Saturday will be to find passage into that lake. It should not be too hard with the high water levels. Saturday this will be an in and out trip.
Scrubgrass is a 2 hour 45 minute drive from Little Rock. We will meet at T Ricks in Hazen just off I40 at exit 193 at 9:00am for anyone who wants to caravan down.
This is adventure paddling!
