Cadron Creek question....

Everyone who's floated the Cadron Creek has floated through Pinnacle Points Gap. Here, the creek used to make about a 1.5 mile loop to the west and flowed back into the creek just below the PPG.

Has anyone ever seen what caused the creek to change course here? Some friends and I floated it this past weekend and wondered if it were a flood or an earthquake. Whatever caused it may have happened long enough ago that it's not recorded. It'd just be interesting to know.

Thanks.

I'm no geologist, but my guess is that over time, the creek turned west at pinnacle and followed the ridge line around, but eventually "broke through" the rock formation, creating the gap itself and bypassing the now slower loop. What you have left is the big rocks in the creek there at the gap.

Yea, it's an interesting place. There are boulders larger than two or three vehicles washed downstream for probably 200 yards. That's what makes me wonder if it was a flood of some type.
