Advice hauling my kayak please!

I'm taking a trip to the coast with my playboat. Dagger kingpin. I'm driving a grand Cherokee and it'll fit in the back. But my friend is wanting to bring a couple bicycles too. I just have the factory roof rack on top. Would strapping my boat up there be a bad idea?? I've heard a couple bad stories involving kayaks without proper racks flying off going down the interstate. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated. We're heading out in the morning.

Strapping it to the factory bars is ok. Ideally you would strap the front and rear of the kayak to the cross bars by going through the metal bars that are found on many boats nowadays and then you'd use bow and stern lines to attach the boat to the vehicle. Being a play boat bow and stern lines may not be a possibility.

Best of luck and take photos if it does fly off! :)

If you have grab loops of any kind on the ends of your boat, utilize them for at least a bow line if not both bow and stern lines. Safety first :myday"
