Fishers Ford and high water?

Hey everyone. Hopefully some of you playboaters can help me out. I was hoping to get some paddling in this afternoon. I was planning to go to the ford and work on my eddy turns and ferrys. I checked the AW and it listed the ford at 5'.5". Is it washed out? Is it too high to do stroke practice? Thanks in advance. -Barry

After spending quite a few days at the ford now, at levels above 4 ft. , I have to revise my "sweet spot". I and many others, are able to get great surfs @4.1 or 4.2 on the top wave. It was in that range today and good big fun! At 4.85 yesterday, I had a hard time staying on the wave , but still a great workout. It seems to make a difference "mentally", having it be a pretty green color @ 4ft. And falling. In the winter 4 ft. And ugly brown with wood, just seemed a little more intimidating. Again, your mileage may vary. I'm going with my own personal "sweet spot" , now between. 4.9 and 2.7. I just adjust my expectations, and have a great time. -M-

Headed up there today for the first time, looks like AW has it at 4.29 mid day.... we'll see what its like just after work. Hoping to meet some other paddlers up there, this will be our first on the water since we moved to AR 3 weeks ago! We're excited for sure and can't wait to see the park and surf the waves.

Julie and I hit the park last night and at 4.2 I'd say the waves are difficult to catch in a short boat. We got some rides but you really need to blast through the shoulders to have good speed in your favor. I'm looking forward to giving it a shot a little lower to see if we can get a little better at catching some smooth rides. There are a few lines open at this level and you can really work on eddy hopping and a good combat roll. River right there is a nice hole at this level but it wants to flush you to the right which is where a tree is jutting out into the stream... so its a little dicey IMO.
Typical ACC fashion, ran into another local paddler who was a super nice guy and I look forward to some runs with him in the near future. Thanks again Dusty for the advice at the park and some recommendations on levels.
Sure was awesome to hit some play features 30 min from the house, something we did not have in Knoxville!
