Frog Bayou Access Closed

Post by kru1 » Wed May 13, 2015 10:51 am

Just a heads up for those that are thinking about floating the Frog Bayou. All the access points from the Grotto (AR 282) down are closed (Lancaster & Rudy). There is a search and rescue (recovery) ongoing. Several members found that out the hard way yesterday when they tried to set their take-out shuttle at the Grotto. I just spoke with the serifs department and they are still closed today.

A teenager drowned / got swept away at the Grotto over the weekend and they are searching for his body.

Prayers going out for a rescue not recovery of the teen ager.

We were discussing a trip to the Frog and will wait and see what develops.

Thanks for the info that news had not got to Tulsa yet.

i think it happened Monday. When i came thru Rudy there were fire crews etc at the bridge with pfds. I asked if a boat could be of any use and they said they were looking for a likely recovery from an incident at the "railroad tracks".

Just curious is it standard procedure to shut down public access during such events for more than a day? I know in past boaters have assisted by running the river.

Best bet is to call Crawford county sheriffs office.

A friend called yesterday and the search was still on then. We went to the Mulberry instead.

They have found the young man who drowned near the low water bridge at the Grotto.
You can check the 5news web site to see for yourself.
Frog should be open to boat now.....

Hopefully some kind of "closure" for the family. Another tragic reminder that flooded creeks and no PFDS don't mix.-M- :(
